As the end of the financial year approaches, MADEC is calling on local businesses and individuals to support people with disabilities and at-risk youth in the Mackay and Whitsunday regions through donations or by starting a Workplace Giving program.
Each year, MADEC provides life-changing support to more than 400 individuals through vital programs and services that enhance independence, inclusion, and well-being. The EOFY campaign invites the community to join this mission, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive, no matter their circumstances.
One poignant example of MADEC’s impact is the story of Abby, a Mackay local diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). In 2023, MADEC helped make Abby’s final wish come true by arranging her family’s first-ever holiday to Airlie Beach. These precious memories were made possible thanks to the generosity of local donors and businesses.
“Stories like Abby’s remind us why we do this work,” said Jasmine Lowry, CEO of MADEC. “A donation, no matter the size, can create unforgettable moments and open doors for people who are often overlooked. Through this EOFY campaign, we’re asking the community to help us build a more inclusive future.”
In addition to one-off donations, MADEC is encouraging businesses to consider implementing Workplace Giving programs, allowing employees to make pre-tax donations directly from their salaries. Employers can also match donations, doubling the impact while reinforcing their commitment to corporate social responsibility.
“Workplace Giving is a simple, powerful way for businesses to support their local community,” Ms Lowry said. “It not only provides meaningful support to those in need but also fosters a culture of compassion and generosity within workplaces.”
All donations to MADEC are tax-deductible and stay local, supporting programs throughout Mackay and the Whitsundays.
