YOUTH MENTAL
HEALTH FIRST AID

ACCREDIATION: Valid for 3 years

The Youth Mental Health First Aid course is ideal for parents, teachers and anyone who works with young people. Participants learn how to provide initial support to a young person (aged 12-18) who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis, until professional help is received, or the crisis resolves.

Course participants learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adolescents, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem, and the treatments and supports available.

Adults who complete the course become Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders), equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to provide someone with mental health information and support when it matters most.

TEEN MENTAL HEALTH
FIRST AID

LOCATION: Schools within the Mackay region
PRICE: $25 per person

The Teen Mental Health First Aid course teaches students aged 12-18 years how to provide initial peer-to-peer support to a friend or classmate who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

Students learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adolescents, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem, and the interventions and supports available.

CONVERSATIONS ABOUT SELF-INJURY

DATES: 6 March, 25 March, 2 April, 29 April
TIMES: 8:30am-12pm
LOCATION: 3/17 Macalister Street, Mackay
PRICE: $30 per person + booking fees

The Conversations About Non-Suicidal Self-Injury course teaches participants how to provide initial support to another adult who may be engaging in non-suicidal self-injury until professional help is received or the crisis resolves. 

Course participants learn how to recognise and respond to the person engaging in non-suicidal self-injury, and the interventions and supports available to encourage pathways to professional help.

The Conversations About Suicide course teaches participants how to provide initial support to another adult who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves. 

Course participants learn how to recognise and respond to suicidal thoughts and behaviours, provide support, and encourage pathways to professional help.
