MADEC is proud to support Inclusion at Work Week (17–21 November), an initiative by Diversity Council Australia (DCA) that celebrates diversity and encourages workplaces across the country to take meaningful action toward inclusion. As an NDIS provider and disability support organisation, MADEC believes inclusion is the foundation of strong, connected communities where everyone can participate and belong.

Why Inclusion Matters

Inclusion at work is more than diversity statistics; it is about belonging. True inclusion means that every person, regardless of their background, ability, or life experience, can contribute fully and confidently in the workplace. For people with disability, inclusion means accessibility, representation, respect, and opportunity, ensuring everyone has what they need to thrive.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, around one in six Australians live with disability. Yet, many people with disability continue to face barriers in employment and career progression, from inaccessible workplaces to unconscious bias. Inclusion at Work Week reminds us that building accessible and inclusive workplaces benefits everyone by improving innovation, wellbeing, and community connection.

The Power of Disability Inclusion

When workplaces embrace disability inclusion, they unlock potential that benefits the entire organisation. Research shows that inclusive workplaces are more innovative, adaptable, and engaged. Most importantly, they reflect the diversity of the communities they serve.

An inclusive workplace does not just accommodate disability; it removes barriers. It ensures that policies, processes, and cultures are designed with everyone in mind. This includes:

  • Accessible recruitment and onboarding, so no one is excluded by design.
  • Inclusive workplace environments, both physical and digital, that allow people to participate equally.
  • Flexible work arrangements, acknowledging that everyone’s needs are different.

At MADEC, we see every day how inclusion transforms lives. When people with disability are supported to pursue their goals, whether through employment, volunteering, education, or community connection, confidence grows, barriers break down, and communities thrive.

Inclusion at Work Week

Inclusion at Work Week is a national opportunity to reflect and act. Whether you are part of a large organisation or a small local team, everyone can play a role. Here are some ways to get involved:

  • Start the conversation: Ask your team how inclusive your workplace really is. Listen to lived experiences and ideas for change.
  • Review accessibility: Check whether your physical spaces, recruitment processes, and communications are fully accessible.
  • Invest in awareness: Disability awareness training helps build understanding and empathy across teams.
  • Be an ally: Small actions such as using inclusive language or challenging stereotypes can help create more inclusive environments.

Our Commitment to Inclusion

MADEC is deeply committed to creating communities where everyone has the opportunity to participate and reach their potential. As an NDIS provider, we support people with disability to live more independently, build skills, connect with others, and achieve their goals.

Inclusion at Work Week aligns with MADEC’s values of respect, empowerment, and equality. By promoting inclusion in workplaces and the wider community, we can help build a future where every person, of every ability, feels valued and supported.
