MADEC was proud to welcome community members, partners and supporters to our Northern Beaches Hub Open Day, offering visitors the opportunity to explore our facilities, meet the team and learn more about the supports we provide across the region.

The event showcased two important spaces within the Hub — the John E. Smith Respite Home and the David & Irie Dalrymple Home, which together provide short-term respite, medium-term accommodation and transition support for people living with disability.

Guests were invited to take guided tours through the homes, providing a closer look at the purpose-built spaces designed to support independence, wellbeing and community connection.

One of the highlights of the morning was the opportunity to explore the Hub’s accessible playground, sensory room and sensory garden, spaces that have been made possible through the generous support of North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation and Variety – the Children’s Charity Queensland.

These thoughtfully designed areas create welcoming and inclusive environments where individuals can relax, engage their senses and enjoy meaningful experiences within a safe and supportive setting.

MADEC CEO Jasmine Lowry said the Hub reflects the organisation’s ongoing commitment to providing inclusive and accessible services for people living with disability across the Mackay region.

“The open day offered attendees a firsthand look at the upgraded spaces, programs and recreational areas, reflecting MADEC’s ongoing commitment to supporting Mackay residents with disability through practical, accessible and engaging programs.”

We were also pleased to welcome Mayor Greg Williamson, whose attendance highlighted the importance of strong community partnerships in supporting inclusive initiatives across the region.

Throughout the morning, visitors had the chance to connect with staff, learn more about MADEC’s services, and see how these purpose-built spaces help create opportunities for independence, participation and community connection.

MADEC extends its sincere thanks to North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation, Variety – the Children’s Charity Queensland, and everyone who joined us on the day to celebrate the continued growth of services supporting people living with disability in Mackay.
