Last year, seven of MADEC’s Supported Independent Living and Out-of-Home Care houses went head-to-head for the coveted title of our inaugural Bake Off Champion. This year, we raised the stakes. NDIS participants, young people, and staff competed across three categories, all vying for the ultimate honour: Baker of the Year.
The competition was fierce, with entries judged on taste, creativity, and technique. Client categories were additionally judged on the use of Person-Centred Active Supports.
Our NDIS and Youth categories were assessed by Anne, Melanie, Fiona, and Kahla, while NDIS Service Coordinator Adam stepped in to judge the Staff category, giving Fiona the chance to show off her culinary flair.
After four and a half hours of taste-testing, discussion, and some difficult decisions, our winners were crowned:
NDIS Services
Lionel and Travis, our NDIS Star Bakers, impressed with their delicious iced banana muffins.

Youth Services
A talented young person in Out-of-Home Care took out the Youth category with a snowman cake and red velvet cookies.

MADEC Staff
NDIS Service Coordinator Fiona Richmond claimed victory in the Staff category with her gingerbread latte cake and raspberry lamingtons.

Baker of the Year
The coveted overall title went to two young people in Out-of-Home Care, who wowed judges with an impressive spread featuring cake pops, decorated biscuits, brownies, and cake. Our 2025 winners clearly have bright futures in the culinary arts!

Congratulations to all of our winners — and to everyone who took part in this year’s Bake Off! Your creativity and enthusiasm made the day unforgettable.
And a huge thank you to our judges, whose expertise (and sugar tolerance) carried us through the competition. After so many sweet entries, a quick sugar-crash nap was well deserved. Your dedication to the cause was truly appreciated!
